Health - CAMHS - Neurodiverse Inclusive Support Team (NIST)

The Neurodiverse Inclusive Support Team (NIST)provides mental health support for children and young people who are neurodivergent, as well as their caregivers and the professionals working with them.

Support may be provided both with and without a formal diagnosis. This includes children and young people:

  • Attending specialist schools
  • Waiting for an assessment for autism (ASC) or Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD)
  • Experiencing significant challenges in daily life related to their needs

How the service supports

NIST provides tailored mental health support for children and young people who may find it difficult to access support through mainstream CAMHS services.

The team makes adaptations to ensure support is accessible and appropriate to individual needs.

Support may include:

  • Mental health assessment and intervention
  • Advice and guidance for families and professionals
  • Adapted approaches to meet communication and sensory needs

Working with other services

NIST works closely with a range of servies to provide coordinated support, including:

  • Children's Learning Disability Teams
  • Specialist schools
  • Specialist respite providers (such as Star House, Wasdale and York Villas)
  • Wakefield Awareness Support Project (WASP)
  • Wakefield Parent Carer Forum

This joined-up approach helps ensure that support is consistent and responsive to each child or young person's needs.
