Education - HTS - Home to School Transport Team

The Home to School Transport Team helps make sure children and young people can get to school safely and regularly. Support with transport may be availabel depending on a child's age, distance from school, and individual circumstances. 

Who may be eligible

Transport support may be available for:

  • Children under 8 who live more than 2 miles from their nearest qualifying primary school (this applies until the end of the term in which they turn 8)
  • Children ages 8 to 16 (up to Year 11) who live 3 miles or more from their nearest qualifying school

Additional support may be available for:

  • Children aged 8 to 11 who receive free school meals or whose parents receive the maximum level of Working Tax credit, if they live more than 2 miles from their nearest qualifying school
  • Children aged 11 to 16 (Years 7 to 11) who receive free school meals or whose parents receive the maximum level of Working Tax credit, if they attend one of their three nearest qualifying schools between 2 and 6 miles from home. 

Additional support

Transport support may also be considered for:

  • Children who are unable to walk to school due to special educational needs, disability, or mobility difficukties
  • Children who cannot safely walk to school because of the route, even with support
  • Young children whose parents or carers are unable to accompany them due to disability
