Wakefield Local Offer

Wakefield Parent Carer Forum

Wakefield Parent Carer Forum is an independent, parent-led organisation supporting families of children and young people aged 0–25 with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) in the Wakefield area.

The forum is led by local parents and carers who use their experience to listen to, represent, and share the views of families, children, and young people.

How the Service Supports

The forum works to improve services and outcomes for families by:

  • Reducing isolation for parents and carers
  • Providing advice and support to help families manage challenges
  • Offering peer support opportunities for SEND families
  • Supporting with Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP) applications and SEND-related paperwork

They also work in partnership with local services, including the local authority, health services, and community organisations, to influence and improve support across Wakefield.

Activities and Support

In addition to their strategic work, the forum offers a wide range of activities and support for families, including:

  • Coffee and chat sessions
  • Breakfast clubs
  • SEND-friendly play sessions
  • Online activities
  • Lego clubs
  • Lending library and sensory resources
  • Parent/carer support groups and safe spaces
  • Newsletters and information sharing
