Educational Improvement Teachers (EITs) are part of the Educational Psychology Service in Wakefield. The team includes six qualified teachers, including a Lead Educational Improvement Teacher.EITs work across different areas of the local authority, following the Wakefield Families Together model, to support children, young people, and their families.
How the team supports
EITs work with Targeted Early Help practitioners to support active casework where there are barries to education. They offer consultation, advice and support, and may carry out specific interventions as part of a wider family support plan.Areas of support can include:
- Behaviour
- Risk of exclusion
- Reintegration into school
- Transitions between settings
- Anxiety
- Emotionally based school avoidance
EITs use a person-centred approach, working to raise aspirations, represent the views of children and young people, and reduce barriers to education.
Ways of working
EITs support children and young people by:
- Gathering and representing their views (pupil voice)
- Sharing this information with school staff
- Contributing to support plans in school
- Supporting discussions in Team Around the Family meetings
