About
Short breaks are services provided to children with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND) to support them to experience things that other children do, at home and in their community. Short breaks services also enable family carers to continue to provide the care that enables children with disabilities to be fully part of their families. For most children and young people with special educational needs and/ or disabilities these are provided by services that are available to everybody.
A short break can be:
- Accessible fun activities in the community
- Support to access fun activities in the community
- Day time or overnight care in the home or elsewhere
- Services to help carers in the evenings, at weekends and during the school holidays.

A Short Breaks Statement provides information about the range of Short Breaks available, any eligibility criteria and information about how to access a Short Break.
Short Breaks Annual Report
The Short Breaks annual report 2022/23 provides a summary of the work that’s been undertaken by the teams involved in the short break process, what’s been achieved and our performance. It also explains what our plans are for the future.

Short Breaks Survey 2024
This survey is for families whose child/young person has been identified and approved as eligible to receive Specialist Short Breaks Support.
We want to ensure the service meets the needs of your child/young person and the family. The best way for us to do this is to ask you to spend a short time filling in this survey as your answers are very important in helping us improve our service. The information will be analysed so that we know what is working and well and where we need to make changes that will bring benefits to the children/young people. Thank you in anticipation of your time.
The questions should take around 7 minutes to complete.
This survey closes at midnight on 31 August.
