Working Together

Big thank you!

Thanks to everyone who came to our listening sessions this week. (13th - 17th April 2026)

We know life is busy, so we really appreciate you taking the time to help us improve the Wakefield SEND Local Offer and make it work better for you.

It was great to share what we’re planning for the SEND Local Offer website—and to hear what you want to see on it.

Here are some of the changes you asked for:

·         Clearer, simpler wording—plus links to the official government/legal info if you want the detail.

·         More bullet points to make pages easier to scan.

·         Buttons to jump to sections (instead of lots of drop-downs).

·         A place to find free SEND courses for parents and carers.

·         Clear labels so you can tell if something is online or face-to-face.

·         In the newsletter: a quick “key dates” section (for example, Post-16 transport deadlines) with links so you can get to what you need fast.

·         In the newsletter: a “You said, we did” update, so you can see what’s changed.

·         More info about transitions at every stage (starting, moving, and leaving settings).

·         Clearer info on voluntary sector services—what they do, and what’s commissioned.

·         Easy-to-find contact details for home education and exclusions.

·         A short summary of events for anyone who couldn’t make it.

We’re also going to:

·         Add a better search bar on the home page.

·         Use the moving banner on the home page to share what’s new.

·         Turn the feedback page into a “Working together” page (with listening events, surveys, and ways to get involved).

·         Run a Local Offer Live event.

·         Hold face-to-face drop-in sessions (Local Offer + Preparing for Adulthood).

·         Ask SENCOs and education settings for their ideas and feedback.

·         Add a simple guide to SEND services: what each service does, how they support schools/settings, and how they support children and young people (SEN Support and EHCP).

Couldn’t make it this time?

That’s okay—there will be more chances to get involved. We want to keep meeting with parents and carers, and with children and young people, so the SEND Local Offer is useful and easy to use.

Check the home page for updates about new events.

You can also email us at sendlocaloffer@wakefield.gov.uk if you’ve got feedback, questions, or ideas.
