Wakefield Museums and Castles

Wakefield Museums and Castles manage five sites across the Wakefield district: Castleford Museum, Pontefract Museum, Wakefield Museum, Pontefract Castle, and Sandal Castle

We run lots of exciting activities and events across our sites. Most of the events are free or low cost.

SEND visitors are welcome at all of our events. However, we also run events specially designed for our SEND audiences.

Visit our Whats On page and under 'Who's going' select 'SEND' to see our SEND-friendly events.

Relaxed Openings

Everybody is welcome! This means that any loud noises will be turned down or turned off. You can be yourself.

There are fidget and sensory objects to help you relax and explore. Ear defenders are also available.

Entry is free. You do not need to book.

You can explore the Museum in a quieter, more relaxed setting.

Pontefract Museum - Every Tuesday from 2pm to 4pm at Pontefract Museum is a relaxed opening session.

Wakefield Museum - Every Thursday from 4pm to 6:30pm at Wakefield Museum is a relaxed opening session.

Castleford Museum - Every Friday from 9:30am to 12pm at Castleford Museum is a relaxed opening session.
