SENDIASS
WESAIL changed name to Wakefield SENDIASS from 1st April.
The letters in SENDIASS stand for Special Educational Needs and or Disabilities Information Advice Liaison Support Service.
You can get help and information from SENDIASS if you or someone you know have Special Educational Needs or a Disability (SEND).
Special educational needs means that you need extra help to learn things.
A disability is a physical or mental need that makes it hard to do things like walk, talk or see.
SENDIASS can help you with lots of things, like:
- School or College
- Telling you where to go for Health or Care support
Pre and Plus Working
Pre and Plus working is part of Wakefield SENDIASS.
This is when someone needs more support.
We do this as an extra to SENDIASS or as a “Complex case”.
We can help to signpost you to other services.
Signposting is when we tell you about other places to go to for support and give you a phone number, email address or website.
A “Complex case” may include:
- Speaking with professionals for your family
- Telling you about paperwork
- Answering questions
This is for Under 5’s only
We cannot help with:
- Behaviour
- Toilet training
- Going with you to appointments
- Attending all meetings

Free, confidential and impartial
Our service is free for anyone to use who lives or works in the Wakefield district.
Free means you do not pay.
We are separate to the Council.
The Council is a group of people who decide what is happening in a place and what money is spent on.
Wakefield SENDIASS is a confidential service.
This means that we will not tell other people about what you say unless:
- You want us to
- A child, young person or adult is in danger
Wakefield SENDIASS is an impartial service.
This means we do not take sides. We are here to help everyone feel heard and listened to.

We are open Monday to Friday
From 9am-5pm.
We do not open on weekends or Bank Holidays.
