Wasdale Outreach offer specialist Young Peoples’ Clubs from our base in Sharlston. Activities include arts, crafts, outdoor sports, games, sensory room and life skills.

Holiday activities with Wasdale include holiday clubs and trips to places of interest.

The service is available:

  • Term Time - 2:30pm to 8:30pm on Weekdays, 9am to 6pm on Saturdays.
  • School Holidays - 9am to 8pm on Weekdays, 9am to 6pm on Saturdays

To receive support from the Wasdale Outreach an assessment of needs to be completed by a professional who knows your child for example a teacher, health visitor, allocated worker at one of Wakefield's Children First Hubs or Social worker. Or alternatively contact Social Care Direct on 0345 8 503 503 and request an assessment for short breaks.

All requests for short breaks are then referred to the Short Breaks Panel for a decision.

Wasdale Outreach will meet the costs of providing support workers and will normally provide any transport needed as part of the activity.

You will be asked to bring your child to an event or a central meeting point for a particular activity, if you can’t transport your child to the meeting point or activity you can request to be assessed for transport to be included in your short breaks allocation.

We ask that parents/carers provide spending money for any activity their child wishes to take part in i.e. entry to cinema, bowling or a museum etc. and also that parents meet the cost of any food and drinks their child has during a session.

If you are on a low income there is a remissions policy to ensure your child is able to take part.
