The Wakefield Information Network (IN) also known as the Disabled Children’s register is a register of families with children and young people with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND), aged 0 to 25 years, and practitioners who work with them.

The Council has a statutory duty to keep and update the register under the Children’s Act 1989, although it is voluntary for people to join it. The register helps the Council and partners with understanding and planning what services and support may be needed in the area for children and young people. It will also inform the future needs of adult services across the Wakefield district.

The IN is used to send out information about support, services, events, training and advice sessions that may be suitable for you and your family’s needs. You can also choose to receive a termly newsletter

If you join the Information Network, Parent/Carers and Young People can also choose to receive a Max Card. The max card is a national discount initiative for children and young people with SEND aged 0-25 years. Cards are funded as part of the Information Network by Wakefield Council.

A card will be provided for each child registered on the IN and valid for approximately two years. Please check the expiry date on the back of your card and make a note of the date as we are unable to send out reminders .

You can apply for a new card by contacting Informationnetwork@wakefield.gov.uk  requesting information on how to receive a new card or by calling us on 01924 302471.

For more information about Max Cards, please see the Max Card  website and the Max Card Flyer.
